Russian Sub With Cruise Missiles Enters Med

A Russian submarine carrying cruise missiles has sailed into the eastern area of the Mediterranean Sea near to Syria, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

The cruise missiles on board a ship from the "Caspian Flotilla" are reportedly similar to those the Russians recently used to hit Islamic State targets.

The Caspian Flotilla is the oldest in Russia and was formed by Peter the Great in 1722.

It is based in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan and has taken part in a number of operations since its formation.

Most recently, Russia fired 18 missiles from its ships last month at targets in Raqqa, Idlib and Aleppo.
Showing solidarity to those who died in the Paris terrorist attack, the missiles had messages written on them before they were fired.

One said "For Ours," Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu revealed in a video posting.

President Vladimir Putin decided to help Syrian President Bashar al Assad with the might of his military forces after a Russian airliner carrying 224 people exploded in mid-air soon after taking off from the popular Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheik.
IS fighters said they were responsible for the crash.Russia says its bombing campaign has been successful, with oil facilities and tankers used by IS hit - costing the terror group almost £1m a day in terms of oil sales.

A US-led coalition - now including British planes - is also involved in an air campaign against the Islamist group.
