Read what our dear bishop Mike Okonkow said about 2016

Dr. Mike Okonkwo, Presiding Bishop, The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM, Lagos, has called on Nigerians not to lose hope because 2016 is going to be the year of ‘All Sufficiency’ in spite of the daunting socio-economic challenges facing the nation. According to him, this would be possible because the country has a great future as laid out by God. This was contained in his New Year message tagged “2016, Year of All Sufficiency.” READ Archive:   Buhari now live at Teslim Stadium, Lagos ready for Presidential Campaign rally He also called on every Nigerian to always go to God in prayers, and not lose hope, because the worst thing that can happen to any person or nation is not to have hope. “If you lose hope, then there is no point living at all, but since there is hope and a place to run to, then, it is best we seek refuge in that place and be sure of tomorrow,” he said. He also urged Nigerians to put their trust solely in God because “we are going to branch out of every fina

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country’s telecoms regulator, had in October fined the firm for missing a deadline to disconnect 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards, citing security concerns in a country plagued by frequent kidnappings and an extremist Islamist insurgency Boko Haram. It imposed a whopping $5.2 billion fine, later reduced to $3.9 billion (3.6 billion euros) following an appeal by MTN.

If it happens at full speed, as some predict, we're looking at an end to our current clumsy toggling between apps, mobile search and texting. What's known as  "conversational commerce" brings your shopping experience into where you spend most of your time — messaging apps

Corruption took over arms procurement under Jonathan, says BuhariPRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has explained how procurement of arms for the nation's armed forces was compromised under the last administration, saying that his administration was taking urgent and appropriate actions to restore order, due process and probity to the processes. Speaking at a meeting with the British Secretary of State for Defence, Mr. Michael Fallon, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, he said the process became open to corruption and shady deals under the last administration. "They just put foreign exchange in a briefcase and travelled to procure equipment for the military. That is why we have found ourselves in the crisis we are now facing,” the president said. He welcomed the offer by the British government to assist Nigeria in defence procurement, intelligence gathering and training. President Buhari restated his conviction that the international community must collaborate more and work with greater unity of purpose to overcome global terrorism. He added: “Terrorism has become very sophisticated now. If developed nations can be attacked, and hundreds of lives lost, how much more developing countries? "In the West African sub-region, Nigeria is the main battleground of the Boko Haram insurgency. We have made a lot of progress against the terrorists, but we will welcome more assistance from our friends and the international community." In his remark, Mr. Fallon said he was in the country to see what more Britain could do to support Nigeria in battling terrorism and violent extremism.

Russia Shows Off Military Might In Syria

Image
It's not a simple business getting to Syria on a Russian military jet. To start with, you have to take the long way round. They no longer fly over Turkey after one of their jets was downed by a Turkish F-16. As a result, our transport plane, which was carrying a small group of journalists to the Russian airbase in Latakia, had to take a considerable diversion. But the funny thing was, they seemed really glad when we arrived. The Russian military cloaks just about everything it does in secrecy - and their activities in Syria are no exception. Nigeria and oil question: Balancing our development path

The marriage between Nigeria and oil can best be described using the title of the faculty lecture by Professor Akin Iwayemi in 1993, ‘Oil: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. You get from oil whatever you bargain for. I have divided my presentation into something similar to the story of the Israelites: The coming of Moses and the Deliverance from Egypt - the hope of the Promised Land: Journey out of Egypt: the law given, broken and the consequences; expecting the new messiah; diversification to the Rescue; the coming messiah: My vision of growth – balancing the role of oil and non-oil sectors and the way forward. The coming of Moses and the deliverance from Egypt The Holy Book wrote about the Jews spending 430 years in slavery in Egypt. They were oppressed and denied their basic rights. They groaned and cried and the Lord heard their cries and sent Moses to deliver them from captivity and take them into the Promised Land that He (God) had covenanted with their forefathers. After the de

PDP governors kick against plan to sack 1,000 NNPC workers

THE Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) which has vowed to resist the planned layoff of over 1,000 employees of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Accusing the Federal Government of embarking on 'shadowy restructuring' of the NNPC, the forum said in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Onaiwu Osaro in Abuja on Sunday, that the plan to sack the over 1,000 employees according to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was based on a directive from President Muhammadu Buhari. It said it was ironic that a regime that touted job creation as one of its major policies would engage in clandestine mass sack of Nigerians without recourse to consultation with labour unions such as NUPENG and PENGASSAN.

Desai) Why did you pursue your chosen degree? “My bachelor’s degree was in science, as I wanted to be a physician. However, because I could not stand the sight of blood and perform dissections on frogs and rabbits in biology classes, I had to think of a non-science major. In India, the educational system was so inflexible that one could not switch out of the biology track into another major. I completed my degree with a major in chemistry. Hackers decide to do something about Trump

Anonymous posted a video message Friday telling Donald Trump his plan to keep Muslims from entering the country is helping ISIS recruitment. Has Donald Trump awakened a mighty giant? The vigilante hacking collective Anonymous -- known for attacking ISIS, the Westboro Baptist Church and agricultural biotech giant Monsanto -- said Friday it is targeting Donald Trump, the leading Republican contender for president of the United States. Shortly after the proclamation, the website for the candidate's New York Trump Tower reportedly went offline. A representative for Anonymous, speaking in a YouTube video , said the hackers targeted Trump because he proposed banning Muslims from entering the country, a policy position that drew condemnation and controversy throughout the week. Trump's statements and policy positions up to now have inspired outrage, blog posts and memes, all of which have become standard fare in American politics. Now, Anonymous has turned its hacking

Enquiry to serve sentimental interest — EKITI PDP By Dapo Akinrefon & Rotimi Ojomoyela Lagos—Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State yesterday accused the Federal Government of plans to use a military panel to upturn his victory. Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Fayose, who faulted the military panel headed by Maj-Gen Adeniyi Oyebade to look at the roles of the military in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti said that “The military report holds no water in law.” The Nigeria Army constituted a Board of Inquiry, BoI, to investigate the alleged involvement of its personnel at last year’s governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states. Terror Stalks Paris, Beirut, Bamako

Image
There were three terrorist attacks in in the world in one week carried out by ISIS and Boko Haram: They were in Beirut (Lebanon), Paris and Bamako (Mali). The magnitude, character and location of the Paris attacks captured all the media attention and managed to suck the air out of anything else that happened that same week. In Paris, the planning by at least four groups had been meticulous. Much of the preparation originated in Brussels, Belgium. Many of the terrorists have now either died, been captured or killed but some are still not accounted for as of this writing. Saleh Abdelsalam, thought to be the brains of the operation is still at large. As a result, for much of last week, Brussels was a “dead” city. Everything was shut down, streets were deserted as people were encouraged to stay home because large gatherings were likely to be targeted. Life did not “go on.” President Hollande of France whose job performance ratings had been very low, rose to the occasion a

Laurent Fabius said the accord negotiated at United Nations talks in Paris would be a "historic turning point" if it is adopted by the delegates from more than 190 nations. As well as the 2C target, the deal, which would be legally binding and is meant to take effect in 2020, include
